Dear readers,
The FP7 project INCREASE (Increasing
the penetration of renewable energy sources in the distribution grid by developing control strategies and using ancillary services) was initiated in September 2013. The project duration is 40 months, the project focuses on how to manage renewable energy sources in LV and MV networks and provide ancillary services (towards DSOs but also TSOs). More information at: http://www.project-increase.eu.
This newsletter will not only give you information on ongoing initiatives, policy news, past and upcoming events but also an overview of the project results.
With best regards,
The INCREASE dissemination team

INCREASE policy brief No. 1:
EMERGING FRAMEWORKS FOR AGGREGATORS IN THE EU, INCREASE Policy Brief No. 1 – June 2016
This policy brief shows that the market access for aggregators is improving in some EU countries, while others are still lagging behind. Often the regulatory frameworks are not supportive for demand response or participation of distributed renewable generation. However, in several EU countries no suitable frameworks to enable participation of flexibility aggregators yet exist. At the same time the emerging new technical solutions allow market actors to provide new services. The upcoming new EU electricity market directive will be an important step towards more decentralized yet harmonized electricity markets with a range of new actors and business models, and may trigger the reform of national regulatory frameworks.
You can download the policy brief here.
INCREASE Summer Schools
Summer school in Ljubljana, May 2016
The INCREASE Summer School Ljubljana 2016 took place at the University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Electrical Engineering during the period of May 22nd - 27th 2016 in the frame of the FP7 INCREASE project. Entitled "The Value of Flexible Energy", it was co-organized by the Laboratory for Energy Strategy (LEST) at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering UL, and Korona d.d. The main theme of the summer school was an overview of the current regulatory and market conditions for the integration of renewable energy sources in the electrical distribution network and the flexibility to facilitate their integration.
More information about the summer school in Ljubljana is available
here.
Upcoming Summer School in Eindhoven, August 2016
The 3rd INCREASE Summer School will take place in Eindhoven, the Netherlands, from August 22th until August 26th 2016. This summer school focuses on the theme "Increasing the penetration of distributed renewable energy sources in the distribution grid using advanced ICT infrastructure". In this summer school, integration of ICT and smart grid, co-simulation and results from the field trials will be discussed. In addition, the real-time application of ICT advancements in low voltage network will be analysed. The summer school will be a part of the Sino-EU Engineering Education Platform (SEEP) High Level Summer School on Energy. Furthermore, the summer school acts as a platform to meet professors and PhD candidates from Europe and China.
Pre-testing of the ILPRA inverters at the Lemcko lab in Kortrijk
The control strategy which helps solving voltage unbalance in low voltage grid has been successfully implemented in the inverters from the Greek company ILPRA. ILPRA successfully modified their inverters control and designed an extra controller that enables the implementation of the INCREASE control strategy. The tests allowed us to improve the implementation of the INCREASE local control strategy and showed that the inverters can be installed in the distribution grid of Energienetze Steiermark where they will be connected to their solar panels. Soon more information on the results of this field trial will follow...
