The INCREASE summer school in Eindhoven took place last week, August 22nd – 26th, 2016 as a part of the Sino-EU Engineering Education Platform (SEEP) High Level Summer School on Energy. This High Level Summer School on Energy is an exchange programme between four Chinese and two EU universities. INCREASE summer school received a great participation of about 70 students (more than 80 registrations) and more than 30 professors and delegated speakers.
On the first day of the INCREASE summer school delegated speakers of the FP7 project INCREASE as well as its sister project DREAM contributed.
On the first half of the second day INCREASE summer school visited the Bronsbergen holiday park where the field trial of INCREASE takes place. Besides the nice weather and great landscape of the park, the students had a great opportunity to see and “touch” smart devices like battery storage systems, solar PV, and wind turbines.
In the afternoon of the second day INCREASE summer school went back to the headquarter of Alliander, DSO partner of INCREASE for a symposium about industry experience on smart grid operation through ICT. Delegated speakers from other FP7 projects E-Balance and DNV GL have shared their view on challenging practical issues as well as promising aspects of real-life smart applications. The symposium has been finalized by having a panel session where the experts discussed and shared their view about valorization of smart grid research along with the market and social demand. INCREASE summer school has been invited by Alliander afterwards to have a great dinner as a final and great event of the excursion day.
On the last day of the week, 9 groups of students presented their solutions for given challenge-driven and idea-driven projects. Some of the proposed solutions have reflected partially innovations presented by the INCREASE team. Such solutions have been greatly appreciated by Chinese researchers who can potentially transfer knowledge of INCREASE to a great Chinese market.
The Eindhoven summer school has been a quite successful dissemination event with a great number of participants from both EU and China.
